LACUNAFEST: A NIGHT FOR THE CREATORS

Matt Gottesman Quote Projected at Lacunafest

Surround yourself with the builders… the creators… the doers, the makers… The ones who dream vividly, move intentionally, and create relentlessly. They remind you it's safe to step beyond comfort zones and forge paths labeled 'uncertain.' They're your mirrors and motivators, your challengers and cheerleaders. And they'll make you meet your higher self… again and again… and again.
— Matt Gottesman

When I came across this quote, it stopped me in my tracks. It wasn't just something I agreed with — it was something I had been living. I'm an artisan in all aspects — an abstract painter, DJ and interior designer. I love all things creative and feel most alive surrounded by like-minded humans. It's one of the reasons I manifested and built Lacuna. And it was exactly what I wanted people to feel when they walked through the doors on the night of Lacunafest.

So I projected it on the wall — a shortened version. :)

From the beginning, Lacuna has been about more than just a beautiful space to rent. At its core, it's about designing a home for the kind of people this quote is referring to — the ones who show up, make things, take risks, and inspire everyone around them just by being fully themselves. Lacunafest was my way of gathering those people in one room and saying: this is your space. You belong here.

On that vibrant spring evening of May 14th, we opened the doors of Lacuna for a phenomenal creative gathering — a colorful celebration of artists, architects, interior designers, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, fashion designers, and more — over good company, light bites from Joe's Pizza, and cocktails courtesy of Dizzy Donkey tequila.

Lacunafest also marked a personal milestone for me. It was the first art show I ever curated and I loved every minute of it. Selecting the artists, thinking about how their work would live together in the space, and weaving in the theme of florals was a fun challenge. The behind-the-scenes moments — hanging the art and collaborating closely with the artists — were so fun and satisfying. It reminded me of late nights in my art studio. Finally seeing it all come together and watching guests stop and really look — it opened something in me I didn't know was waiting. I want to do more. Much more.

The show featured an incredible origami sculpture and mobiles by Jeff Morrical, fabulous large portrait paintings by Jared Hendler, breathtaking underwater photography by Javiera Estrada (represented by Art Wolf Gallery), and stunning precision woodwork by Louis Jacot. A jaw-dropping 12-foot floral sculpture by Rogue and Fox anchored the room, while DJ Sensitive Geezer kept the energy going all night long. The event was generously sponsored by Ferguson Home, Gaggenau, and Signature Hardware.

The vibe was electric. New and old friends gathered among the art, the music, and the cocktails in Lacuna's beautiful indoor/outdoor space in West Adams. It was the perfect evening to soak up the energy of spring blooming into summer.

The room was full of exactly the kind of people that quote describes. Among them were designers Cesar Giraldo, Robert Steloff, and Allison Ochmanek of Concept A.M.O., lighting designer Andrea Claire, artist Joseph La Piana, director and DP Alice Gu, photographers Jeff Forney, Ethan Lovell, and Larsen Sotelo, singers Byron Bennett, Michael Carter, and Drew Alexis, celebrity men's groomer Jamie Taylor, actress and DJ Patsy Palmer, model agent and consultant Omar Albertto — and so many more.

Looking around that room, I kept thinking — this is it. This is exactly what I imagined. I was pinching myself.

The evening reminded me why I stopped waiting and built this place. Not just so people could book a beautiful venue — but so moments like this could exist. So creatives could find each other, inspire each other, and walk away feeling a little more seen, a little more bold, a little more ready to forge those paths labeled uncertain.
